What is growing up jazz?
It started as the lifestyle of vocalist and composer Andromeda Turre who, with two Jazz musicians for parents, quite literally spent her life Growing Up Jazz. Learning about the music and also it’s rich history first hand from prodigious jazz artists such as Dizzy Gillespie and Max Roach, Andromeda understood from an early age a side of american history that often remains untold.
Her educational program offers an innovation in American History. looking at it through a particular lens, Jazz, she zooms in on our complex history and how it has influenced Jazz from its inception. the program takes participants through a transformative learning experience Through lecture, listening examples, videos and discussion. Andromeda guides participants through the process of Growing Up Jazz for themselves, teaching them how to push the limits of both how they listen to music and see the world.
